Man, it’s already July! You know what that means – Lacombe Days is THIS month!
Everything is coming together and you should be seeing the print materials out and the Events Brochure in your mailbox (in Lacombe County) within the next couple of weeks. But you don’t have to wait ‘til then to see what’s going on – the full event listing is now up here! Again this year, we will have crews at Michener Park and the Lacombe Memorial Centre, at information booths and walking through the crowds, so if you need any help just grab (but not really) someone with a navy blue Lacombe Days shirt! Those information booths? You’ll want to stop by them – we are giving away FOUR packages to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, two packages for Edmonton and two packages for Red Deer. So be sure to get your name in! At Lacombe Days it’s all about having fun with your family and friends, creating summer memories; and we as a group are going to be out there doing our best to make sure that happens. See you there! Rosanna Kerekes Lacombe Days Event Coordinator Although Lacombe Days is an annual festival that returns year-after-year, it requires fresh ideas, a bit of guessing, and a lot of hoping that we are making the right move for you. Along with community feedback, looking at participation, costs, and other planning components really factor into the events that the Lacombe Days Association try to provide. That being said, new changes are brought in again this year. The biggest change you’ll be noticing to the Lacombe Days Festival is the lack of fireworks on Saturday night. Due to the amount of fireworks available throughout the year, plus the depleting length of show times, we’re making a gamble that we are really excited about! We are partnering with Catalyst Productions to bring out a light show Friday AND Saturday evening. Catalyst Productions has worked on stages with Gord Banford, Jay Sean, Akon, and more - and will be lighting up Michener Park for an awesome show! He will be following the bands each night, so come down to listen to some live music before and enjoy the show! Every year we get the feedback that you are missing the shoot outs. We agree, they were a fan-favourite! We have been working the past couple of years to bring back some form of car event, from mud bogs to shoot outs, and due to location constraints, we have not been able to nail something down – yet! We will continue to try figure this out to get some car events back to Lacombe Days! We value the feedback we receive from everyone, and we have a lot of help with our volunteers trying to get your feedback. So we welcome you, anytime you see a Lacombe Days t-shirt walk on by this July, let us know what you think! This is a festival for you – put together by people like you; people who have a passion for our community, who want to see the community come together and celebrate, who want to see guests welcomed to our community with outstretched arms to join in the summer fun. Lacombe Days Event Coordinator If you have grown up in Lacombe or the near surrounding area, I am sure Lacombe Days aren’t anything new to you. But to people coming in to Lacombe to make some memories and have a great weekend in this awesome little City, these people may be asking just that. I don’t know if you will find something just like Lacombe Days, which is the exciting thing about the festival. Lacombe Days has grown up with the City of Lacombe, starting over 20 years ago. In fact, we are unable to pin down the exact year it started. It has been run by a boards of volunteers and like-minded people that have been passionate about celebrating our community. As our City grows, our small town attitude remains. And the things that were prided back then – community involvement, inclusion, family – are things that remain. So what are Lacombe Days? To me, they are some of the first memories of dating my husband, who grew up and introduced me to Lacombe; having the fun, sweet memories of a new relationship celebrating summer fun. They are some of the first summer fun celebrations that we did as a new, young family, as we came to Lacombe to raise our family. They are the weekend we look forward to every summer to wave to the parade, run around town experiencing all the fun and unique ways the community comes out to show the pride in their City; where mom and dad can escape for a fun date night. They are where my children will continue to grow and make some of their favourite summer memories. What are Lacombe Days to you? Rosanna Kerekes
